In order to comply with the WHO (World Health Organisation) standards concerning the human health on board, we propose to passenger ships the following services focused on the control, prevention and in case of contamination, the definition of decontamination proceeding on board to eliminate the biological risk due to Legionella sp bacteria.
As known, a legionellae strong contamination on board is very hard to fight and normally a complete ship stop is needed.
The main purpose of The ACSYSTEM is to avoid the risk of legionellae contamination on board, just following regular checks and controls and using systematically simple and cheap hygienic procedures.

The ACSYSTEM description

  1. Supply on board of a special designed Biological laboratory for legionellae sp analysis on water samples;

  2. Supply on board of all the materials needed for the analysis;
  3. Installation on board of the lab and complete training to the ship’s doctor;
  4. On board Manual of procedures;
  5. Check of the results through Email (digital photographs) sent to home lab;
  6. The ACSYSTEM operator regular visit on board twice a year;
  7. Official Register of operations, analysis and procedures adopted on board (signed by an acknowledged professional).
The ACSYSTEM procedures to eliminate the risk of legionellosis on board follow a precise scheme, based on biological analysis and evaluations, control of hygienic conditions of water system and Air conditioning system and the indication of sanitary interventions on board proportionate to the level of contamination previously verified.
If, after the analysis made on board, a legionellae sp contamination will be found or a negative trend of results (increase of legionellae sp concentration), The ACSYSTEM experts will suddenly provide to indicate the proceedings to be adopted on board or, in case of strong contamination, will indicate the decontamination (*) proceedings, using up to date techniques based on real needs.

We are already using this procedures over several passenger ships with excellent results.
According to The ACSYSTEM the ship will be equipped of a complete bio-lab (**) and the doctor/nurse on board will be trained to make proper samplings and analysis following a precise schedule; the results of every analysis will be certificated by an official microbiological lab (home lab) through digital pictures and an official register of the procedures adopted will be prepared, in order to give to the sanitary authority and to all the passengers/crew on board the proof that everything possible has been made to avoid the risk of contamination.

(**) the bio-lab provided by the system is specially designed; it needs a very small space on board, it’s easy to use, reliable and at the same time represents the state of the art in microbiological laboratories.
